New Plans for New Years

So here's the thing: I am not much of a partier.  Because I'm a college student, I'm sure that is hard to believe, but it's 100% true.  If it was up to me, I'd be in bed by 9pm and not wake up until 10am.  I love my sleep.  However, I have been told over the years how uncool that is so I now make an effort to be more fun.  Sticking with my theme of trying to be more fun, I decided to spend New Years in Las Vegas with my boyfriend and best friend.  We booked our flight in June.. I'm a planner.  December finally rolled around and we steadily became more anxious about our plans.  I, especially, was starting to regret my decision to go to Vegas as I realized I would be required to go to clubs and bars until 2:00am.  Suddenly my "fun" trip became an expensive, exhausting, and cold trip.

Thankfully, Clark has lost several c00l points since dating me, and now prefers a relaxing vacation over a party vacation.  We talked it over and came up with the idea of going to Phoenix, Arizona where his Grandma lives in a Retirement Neighborhood.  We knew both his mom and dad would be in town, so it would be a great opportunity to see family.

I immediately called my best friend to see what her thoughts were on the idea.  She, of course, was thrilled.  She and I are similarly uncool.  So here we were, canceling our flight to Sin City for one of the craziest times of year, and booking our flight to party it up with the elderly! Whoohoo! Let me tell you, I am so glad we did.

We spent 4 days, 3 nights in Arizona, and it was a blast.  We not only got to spend time with family, but we also sat by the pool, played golf at Top Golf, and watched loads of football.  Congrats Boise State & Oregon!
I'd also like to point out that we went out for every game and cheered our hearts out.  We really took one for the team because Boise State played Arizona, and the bars were not happy with our celebratory cheering.

New Years Eve we ventured downtown near ASU.  They have a block party where dj's and bands fill the streets along with many stumbling drunk young adults.  We went at about 9; I was seriously considering going to bed at this point.  Of course, we were far too early and had to find somewhere to camp out until things picked up.  We wondered into a bar and began drinking the night away.  We anxiously watched the large countdown clock outside the bar awaiting the stroke of midnight.. You might think it was because we were excited to begin a new year or possibly to remember the year we just had.  You'd be wrong.  We were excited to go to bed.

We stuck it out, continued having fun, and celebrated the New Year with fireworks at midnight.  Then at 12:04am we got in a cab and went home.  A night well done in my book.

The next day we had a relaxing day, drinking wine, getting massages, and going for pedicures.  The trip was an absolute success and I couldn't be happier with our new plans going into this New Year.

BTW. I mentioned a place called Top Golf.. get excited Colorado natives, one is coming your way!

Also, a few more funny stories from this trip coming up throughout the week!

My last BIG New Year's Eve celebration was also in Tempe, AZ, with some fun-loving work buddies. Have to say, though, my night just began at 12:04am! That party has lasted me the last 20 years! Glad to see someone more sensible than me!
