A Blank Slate

Many of my friends & family know how much I enjoy interior design.  It's actually to the point where I look forward to moving every year so that I have a new space to design.  I will spend hours staring at a floor plan online just to dream up exactly how I want everything.  
Of course nothing ever stays where I think it will.
We often walk into our new, empty home and just create a mess.  Even if I have a plan on paper, there's something different about being in the space - understanding how everything flows together.  I often sit in our empty rooms for a good amount of time before telling Clark, I mean helping Clark, to bring everything in.  Then we bring in piece by piece and put things anywhere there is space.  After getting everything in, I really get started.  With everything in front of me and the spaces free, I can start visualizing just where things should go.  By the end of the day.. or week.. everything has its own perfect place.  When you move and have a blank slate, everything can have a new meaning, new purpose.  A small table or desk can become a bar.  A short, narrow dresser can become a bedside table.  When things are not restricted to the space they were previously in, they can have new life.
It is for these reason that I am so excited to help my friend design her new room.  Her new home is white, with sleek lines, and a very modern feel.  We want to make it homey yet maintain the style of the home.  Playing off the white theme and adding a few pops of color will be the perfect way to do that.  We are currently in the planning phase, but I wanted to share with you a few of the ideas we're going to use.  If you have a blank slate you're looking to fill, try some of these fun pieces!

Overall we want to keep a very clean, crisp look for the room.  Using more white pieces in different types of material helps to maintain the current airy feel of the room.  We are also not using pieces that go all the way down to the floor which helps the room to feel more open.  Fun accents such as wall plants and a faux fur stool can give the room a unique touch that are specific to the taste of my friend.  Also incorporating a variety of materials such as glass, wood, marble, and metal helps to give the room a somewhat eclectic feel without taking away any cohesiveness.  
As I said, we are just in the planning stages now but I'm excited to keep you updated as things progress!
