Best & Worst of the Oscars

2/23/2015

Although this is not my typical fashion post (because there are no pictures of me in my most recent favorite outfits..), the dresses from the Oscars were too much to ignore.  Now, notice I did not say too great, too incredible, or too amazing.  However, I also didn't say some variety of too horrible either.  This is because it was honestly quite the variety, and I wasn't as impressed or horrified as I usually am.  I typically find myself watching the Red Carpet and drooling over tons of dream dresses and laughing at some of the bad ones, but not this time.  This time, there were only a few that really stood out to me, good or bad...

Well, that said, let's start with the few I really did love. I don't just mean like, because there were several that I thought were pretty.  These dresses on the other hand I actually love, and would trade just about anything for.

These two dresses incorporated sparkle into every part of the dress, and yet remained very classic.  Both are definitely statement dresses, and offer a little bit of 'sexy' with the touches of transparency.  However they are both long sleeved and full length, offering a bit of coverage and mystery.
These two were some of my favorites, with Kerry Washington's dress being my number 1.  I love a pale pink/cream/beige anything.  The color looks great against both light and dark skin tones and will carry on every year.
Both of these dresses also have unique cuts that make them flattering (even during pregnancy) as well as eye catchers.  Neither dress got the media attention that they both deserve!
The last two dresses are gorgeous looks that seemed to be popular with everyone throughout the evening.  Although very different from one another, they both play on the current trends: cut outs, razor back, deep v-neck, and transparency.  Each look also features a dark lip and long bob.  Trendy, trendy, trendy!

Are they gorgeous or what??
Unfortunately not all looked as incredible as these ladies.  Although many of the women wearing the 'worst' dresses are beautiful, their outfits did not do them justice.  Let's look at those that weren't so successful...

No, no, no.. this is not a dance.  This is the Oscars!  Dressing for the Oscars doesn't mean they have to wear designer name or the most expensive dress, but don't wear a prom dress.
I can tell that both of these dresses started as great ideas.  Then, somewhere down the road, people forget to speak up and point out the terrible direction they were both headed.  Solange completely disappears in that dress, and Nicole.. oh Nicole.  Not only does that dress reflect every different color in the worst way, but the red belt? Wrong in so many ways.  Also, was it too long and you used kids scissors to cut the bottom? Not good.
Everything is wrong with these dresses.  There's not much to say..
Bad.
Bad.
Bad.
Better luck next year ladies!

My fashion is a representation of my personality: imperfect, always evolving, classic, but a little quirky.
